India and the USA have finally signed a trade deal. Not having an agreement with the US was hurting India earlier. The deal is a clear win-win. The agreement includes India buying energy worth USD 500 billion from the US, covering oil, coal and some agricultural products. Securing the deal at relatively low tariffs, cheaper than many Asian peers, should boost corporate profits. With trade deals signed with both the US and the EU within two months, India is firmly moving towards becoming a manufacturing-first nation, and these agreements reinforce that trajectory.
