Reddit is down? Thousands report internal server error amid widespread outage

Reddit is experiencing a significant outage, leaving thousands of users unable to access the platform. Many users reported encountering “Internal Server Error” messages on Monday evening(September 15), while trying to browse the site.

Outage tracking website DownDetector recorded a surge in reports around 5:30 p.m. EDT, with over 21,200 incidents reported by 5:22 pm ET. Complaints largely pointed to server-related issues, suggesting a possible overload or internal configuration problem.

Reddit is a social media platform and online community where registered users can post content, share news, and engage in discussions across thousands of topic-based forums called “subreddits.” Each subreddit focuses on a specific interest, ranging from news, technology, and science to hobbies, memes, and entertainment.
Users can upvote or downvote posts and comments, which determines their visibility, and participate in threaded discussions. Founded in 2005, Reddit has grown into one of the largest and most influential websites globally, known for its active communities, viral content, and role in shaping online culture and trends.

As of Monday evening, Reddit has not issued an official statement or responded to media inquiries. Analysts say the cause of the outage could be server-related, but confirmation will depend on an update from Reddit’s technical team. Users are advised to monitor both Reddit and Downdetector for the latest information.
