As fans mourn Rivers’ passing with tributary messages, many are also curious about the band itself, starting with its unusual name. But how did the band come up with such a distinctive name? And what does it even mean?
What is Limp Bizkit’s name’s origin?
“We were actually in a room riffing at the moment,” Loud Wire quotes Fred Durst, lead vocalist of the band, citing his comment to KDGE 102.1FM in a 2023 article about the band’s name.
It added, “We were just trying to think of something, and we don’t take ourselves so seriously all the time, but we like things that are a little left of center and sometimes really quirky and corny.”
What is the meaning of Limp Bizkit?
There are conflicting theories as to where the name Limp Bizkit comes from. Some attribute it to Durst’s dog Bizkit, who happened to have a limp, while others point to the same-named masturbatory game.
Elsewhere, on a Reddit AMA, he said, “I wanted it to have the same roll off of the tongue as Led Zeppelin but be so odd that you would have a hard time forgetting it. I remember things like Gimp Disco, Split Dickslit, Bitch Piglet, and somehow…Blood Fart. Plus, we never really took our name or purpose very seriously considering the chances of succeeding were slim to none at that point.”
One user from the language learning app and Q&A community hinative has summarized their version of the bizarre masturbatory game: “The band name Limp Bizkit refers to a game in which a group of guys stands in a circle, and in the middle of the circle they place a biscuit.” It continues, “The group starts masturbating at the same time, and the object of the game is to masturbate to orgasm as quickly as possible, making sure to ejaculate directly on the biscuit.” It concludes that the last guy to ejaculate loses the game, and he must eat the soggy biscuit.
However, Durst has previously clarified that the name has no meaning and is only intended to be polarizing. “The name is there to turn people’s heads away. A lot of people pick up the disc and go, ‘Limp Bizkit. Oh, they must suck.’ Those are the people that we don’t even want listening to our music,” quotes news outlet American Songwriter.
