Group standings and qualification race

While Group A is settled, Group B remains open. Sri Lanka currently lead with 4 points from 2 matches and a net run rate of +1.546. Bangladesh also have 4 points from 3 matches but a negative net run rate of -0.270. Afghanistan, with 2 points from 2 games and a strong net run rate of +2.150, will meet Sri Lanka in a crucial clash on Thursday. Hong Kong, winless in three games, have been eliminated. The final Group B result will decide which two teams join India and Pakistan in the Super 4.

Pakistan’s win over UAE

In their last group game, Pakistan recovered from a slow start. Fakhar Zaman scored 50 off 36 balls, while Salman Agha added 20. Shaheen Shah Afridi’s late 29 not out lifted Pakistan to 146/9. UAE pacer Junaid Siddique claimed 4/18 and Simranjeet Singh took 3/26.

UAE’s chase ended at 105 in 17.4 overs. Rahul Chopra top-scored with 35, but Abrar Ahmed (2/13), Shaheen (2/16) and Haris Rauf (2/19) ensured a comfortable win for Pakistan.

India and Pakistan handshake row

The build-up to the game was again dominated by the handshake controversy. India’s players had declined to shake hands with Pakistan after their seven-wicket win in the earlier group match. Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who also heads the Asian Cricket Council, reacted strongly and demanded the removal of match referee Andy Pycroft.
The issue resurfaced before Pakistan’s match against UAE, delaying the start by an hour. Reports said the team only agreed to play after Pycroft apologised.

ICC response on the handshake row

The ICC reviewed the incident and informed PCB that it found no reason to remove Pycroft. He continued as match referee for Pakistan’s last league game and remains in the role for the upcoming fixtures.
