Delhi Republic Day 2026 traffic advisory: Major restrictions on Noida, Gurgaon, Faridabad & Sonipat routes; Check what’s open and what’s closed
The Delhi Police shared the advisory on X (formerly Twitter), informing residents about the expected diversions, restricted zones and alternate routes in place for Republic Day.
Republic Day 2026: Why Traffic Restrictions Have Been Imposed
Republic Day is one of the most significant national events, marked by a ceremonial parade at Kartavya Path in the presence of top dignitaries and thousands of spectators. To ensure security and smooth movement of the parade contingents, strict traffic regulations are implemented across central and adjoining parts of Delhi.
According to the advisory, vehicular movement will be regulated from the early hours of January 26, with several arterial roads either partially or completely closed.
Key Traffic Restrictions Announced by Delhi Police
The Delhi Police stated that traffic curbs will be enforced in phases depending on the movement of parade vehicles and security arrangements.
Some of the major restrictions include:
- Limited or no vehicular movement on Kartavya Path and surrounding roads
- Restrictions around India Gate, Vijay Chowk, Tilak Marg and Rajpath
- Diversions on routes leading to Central Delhi
- Heavy vehicle movement likely to be restricted during morning hours
- Parking restrictions near parade routes and security zones
Commuters have been advised to strictly follow traffic signage and instructions issued by traffic personnel on duty.
Republic Day 2026: Delhi–NCR traffic advisory (January 25–26)
Vehicle restrictions
- No HTV/MGV/LGV (except essential services) will be allowed to enter Delhi from 9 pm on January 25, 2026 until the Republic Day parade ends on January 26 (around 1.30 pm).
- Entry of commercial vehicles into Delhi from Faridabad will remain prohibited during this period.
- Metro rail services will continue at all stations.
Area-wise details
Gurugram
Heavy vehicles will not be allowed to enter Delhi.
Diversions will be available via Rajokri, Kapashera, Aya Nagar and Bagdola.
Dwarka–Haryana border
Commercial vehicles will not be allowed to enter Delhi.
Diversions will be made from:
- Main borders: Tikri Border-2, Jharoda Border-3, Dhansa Border-4, Darula Border
- Internal village borders: Jhatikra Border, Nankhedi/Badusaria Border, Surakhpur Border
Bahadurgarh (Haryana)
- Diversions from T-point Sector 9 Bahadurgarh towards the bypass and KMP Expressway.
- U-turns and diversions through Gurgaon Road, Dharmapur Chowk and Babupur Chowk.
Jhajjar
- Entry of HTV/MGV/LGV into Delhi will be restricted.
- Diversions will be made via Jhajjar–Sampla Road.
Sonipat
- Entry of heavy vehicles into Delhi will be prohibited.
- No vehicular movement will be allowed between ISBT Sarai Kale Khan and ISBT Kashmiri Gate on Ring Road from 7.30 am to 1.30 pm on January 26.
Faridabad
- Entry of commercial vehicles into Delhi will remain prohibited from 9 pm on January 25 to 1.30 pm on January 26.
- Transport and commercial vehicle drivers must follow traffic police instructions.
Diversions will be available via the KGP/KMP Expressway and alternate routes from Prahladpur Shooting Range, Durga Builder Road and Badarpur Border.
Blockades will be in place at:
- Naka Surajkund Chowk
- Naka Durga Builder
- Naka ISC Chowk
- Naka Badarpur Border
- Naka Nizamuddin–NH-97 (Delhi–Mumbai Expressway)
Gautam Budh Nagar (Noida)
Entry of goods vehicles (heavy, medium and light) into Delhi will be restricted.
Diversions will be enforced from DND, Kalindi Kunj and Chilla borders.
Vehicles will be diverted towards the Noida–Greater Noida Expressway and Eastern Peripheral Expressway.
Goods vehicles coming from the Yamuna Expressway will be diverted from Zero Point.
Parking on main roads will be restricted; violators will be towed.

Bus terminating points
City bus services will be curtailed at:
- Park Street/Udyan Marg
- Aram Bagh Road (Paharganj)
- R.A. Kamla Market
- Delhi Sachivalaya (IG Stadium)
- Pragati Maidan (Bhairon Road)
- Hanuman Mandir (Yamuna Bazar)
- Mori Gate
- ISBT Kashmiri Gate
- ISBT Sarai Kale Khan
- Tis Hazari Court
Metro services
Metro rail services will remain available at all stations during Republic Day celebrations.

North–south corridor
Ring Road – Ashram Chowk – Sarai Kale Khan – AIIMS – Dhaula Kuan
East–west corridor
Ring Road – Bhairon Road – Mathura Road – Subramanian Bharti Marg

Ring Road – ISBT – Chandgi Ram Akhara – Mall Road
For Old Delhi railway station
Ring Road – Ashram Chowk – Sarai Kale Khan – Ring Road – Ajmeri Gate
Advisory Issued on X: What Delhi Police Said
Sharing the update on social media, Delhi Police wrote: “In view of Republic Day 2026 celebrations on January 26, certain traffic restrictions will be effective in Delhi. Commuters are requested to avoid the mentioned routes and plan their journey accordingly.”
The advisory also includes a detailed route map highlighting closed roads, diversion points and alternative corridors for smooth traffic movement.
Suggested Routes and Public Advisory
To avoid inconvenience, commuters are advised to:
- Use public transport wherever possible
- Start early to avoid last-minute delays
- Follow official traffic updates shared by Delhi Police
- Avoid Central Delhi during parade hours
- Use alternate routes suggested in the advisory map
Emergency vehicles will be allowed passage, but private vehicles may face checks or diversions depending on security requirements.
Traffic Restrictions Likely to Affect Office-Goers and Travellers
With Republic Day falling on a national holiday, traffic volume may be lower than usual. However, those travelling to railway stations, ISBTs or airports are advised to leave well in advance to avoid delays caused by barricades and diversions.
Authorities have also warned that violation of traffic rules during this period could attract strict penalties.
Delhi Police Urge Public Cooperation
Delhi Police have appealed to citizens to cooperate with authorities and follow all instructions in the interest of public safety.
Officials said the arrangements are being made to ensure:
- Smooth conduct of Republic Day parade
- Safety of participants and spectators
- Minimal disruption to essential services
