Arizona shooting: An unidentified person was left fighting for their life on Tuesday after being shot during an encounter involving US Border Patrol in southern Arizona, as per a report.

Border Patrol Shooting Reported in Southern Arizona

The shooting occurred around 7:30 a.m. near milepost 15 on West Arivaca Road in southern Pima County, according to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, reported NBC News. The Santa Rita Fire District said the individual was found in critical condition and rushed from the scene for emergency treatment.

Arizona Shooting: Emergency Response Following Border Patrol Incident

Fire crews from Santa Rita Fire District and American Medical Response provided care before transferring the patient to a medical helicopter for rapid transport to a regional trauma center. No further details about the person’s condition were immediately available.
The fire department said, “Patient care was transferred to a local medical helicopter for rapid transport to a regional trauma center,” adding, “The incident remains under active investigation by law enforcement agencies,” as quoted by NBC News.

Investigation Underway After Arizona Border Patrol Shooting

What led up to the shooting remains unclear, and authorities have not said whether any law enforcement officers were injured. The incident is under active investigation, with the Pima County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI assisting.
The PCSD said, “We ask the community to remain patient and understanding as this investigation moves forward,” adding, “PCSD will thoroughly examine all aspects of the incident, however, these investigations are complex and require time,” as quoted by NBC News.

Arizona Shooting Adds to Ongoing Border Patrol Controversy

The shooting comes as federal immigration enforcement faces growing public scrutiny. It occurred just days after Border Patrol fatally shot Alex Pretti in Minneapolis and weeks after an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer shot and killed Renee Good.

Those deaths sparked citywide protests and intensified criticism of the Department of Homeland Security, including calls for DHS Secretary Kristi Noem’s removal.

However, US president Donald Trump told reporters on the White House South Lawn that Noem would not step down. He added that border czar Tom Homan was in Minnesota meeting with local officials.

Meanwhile, federal immigration officers have shot 12 people since September as the Department of Homeland Security has expanded deportation operations nationwide.
