Fort Worth plane crash near Hicks Airfield engulfs aircraft in flames; business 287 traffic blocked

A Fort Worth plane crash sent flames and thick black smoke billowing into the sky after a Cirrus SR-22 aircraft went down near Hicks Airfield in Tarrant County, Texas. The incident occurred around 11:00 a.m. CDT (16:00 UTC) in the 12700 block of North Saginaw Boulevard, just north of Fort Worth near Avondale, according to WBAP, citing the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash also ignited multiple tractor-trailers, producing plumes of smoke visible for miles. Emergency responders from the Fort Worth, Haslet, and Saginaw Fire Departments rushed to the scene to extinguish the fires and secure the area, working to prevent further explosions.

Video footage shared on X shows the aircraft wreckage engulfed in flames as firefighters work to contain the blaze. Witnesses reported hearing a loud explosion moments before the fire spread across the industrial yard. Business 287 is closed to both northbound and southbound traffic in that area. According to the APA, motorists are urged to take a different route and avoid the area.

Authorities have yet to release information about casualties or the pilot’s condition, but investigators from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have been notified and will lead the investigation.

About Cirrus SR-22

The Cirrus SR-22 is a high-performance, single-engine, four- or five-seat aircraft manufactured by Cirrus Aircraft, known for its advanced technology, speed, and safety features. Introduced in 2001 as an upgraded version of the SR-20, the SR-22 has become one of the most popular general aviation aircraft in the world.
As per its manufacturer, it typically accommodates four people, including the pilot, with seating for three passengers in addition to the pilot. In certain configurations, the SR22 can be equipped with a 60/40 FlexSeating system, allowing for a fifth seat in the rear cabin.
One of its most notable features is the Cirrus Airframe Parachute System (CAPS), a whole-aircraft ballistic parachute designed to bring the plane safely to the ground in the event of an emergency. This system has contributed to the SR-22’s reputation for enhanced safety. The SR-22 is widely used by private pilots, flight schools, and small business owners for personal and business travel.
