Trial testimony and accusations against the brothers
The case involved testimony from 11 women. Six of them were part of the criminal indictment. Prosecutors said more than 60 women reported being raped by one or more of the brothers.
Prosecutor Madison Smyser told the court that the brothers used parties, trips and promises of luxury experiences to meet women. Prosecutors said women were invited to locations including the Hamptons, a Caribbean cruise and a ski trip in Aspen.
Many women testified that they felt drugged after receiving drinks from the brothers. Some said they lost control of their bodies after drinking very little alcohol.
One witness used the pseudonym Katie Moore. She said she was drugged and raped by Alon Alexander after a night at a New York City club. She testified that after drinking a beverage her body started to sway. She said she later woke up naked in a bed with Alon Alexander standing over her.
Moore told the jury she tried to leave the bed but was pushed back. She said she told him she did not want to have sex, and he replied that it had already happened.
Another charge involved Oren Alexander. Prosecutors accused him of filming and sharing a video of an incapacitated 17-year-old girl in 2009. The woman, now 34, testified she had no memory of meeting him.
Two women also said they felt paralyzed before assaults involving Oren and Alon Alexander.
Defense arguments and legal response
Defense lawyers argued the sexual encounters were consensual. They said the accusers had faulty memories and financial motives.
Tal Alexander’s attorney Deanna Paul told jurors the women met the brothers willingly and were free to leave. She argued prosecutors had not proved a commercial sex act occurred.
Marc Agnifilo, attorney for Oren Alexander, acknowledged that his client pursued women during his career but said that behavior did not prove rape.
Prosecutor Elizabeth Espinosa rejected the defense claims. She told jurors there was no reason for many women to commit perjury years later and describe details of their sex lives in court.
Lawsuits and other legal cases
Besides the criminal case, the Alexander brothers face many civil lawsuits. Some women claim sexual assault and harassment.
A Beverly Hills real estate broker filed a lawsuit accusing Oren Alexander of drugging and assaulting her in 2014 at a dinner in New York. His civil attorney Jason Goldman called the lawsuit false and said it was filed to create headlines.
Oren Alexander and Alon Alexander also face criminal charges in Florida. The brothers have denied all allegations.
