YouTube down reason: Why ‘something went wrong’ error message is affecting thousands of users in India, US and other countries


YouTube, owned by Alphabet Inc., experienced an outage on Tuesday that affected more than 240,000 users across the United States, according to Downdetector.com. The outage-tracking website reported 240,707 user complaints about issues with the social media platform as of around 7:59 p.m. ET. Downdetector compiles outage data by aggregating status reports from multiple sources. Most of the reported problems appeared to be linked to the YouTube app, though some users also flagged issues with the website. Complaints were also raised about YouTube TV, with Downdetector recording over 7,000 reports at the time of writing. The outage was reported in India too.

YouTube has not yet issued a statement regarding the disruption, and the cause of the outage remains unclear. There are nearly 300,000 reports on DownDetector and growing, with a large spike for both Google and YouTube TV on the outage tracker as well.
