ECI orders immediate suspension of seven AEROs in West Bengal, directs disciplinary action over alleged misconduct


Election Commission of India (ECI), in a series of letters written to Chief Secretary Nandini Chakraborty, on Sunday night directed immediate suspension of seven AEROs- three in Murshidabad, two in South 24 Parganas districts and one in West Medinipur and Jalpaiguri respectively, and disciplinary proceedings against by the cadre controlling authority immediately “without any delay and apprise the Commission in this regard”.

ECI had directed CS to put Satyajit Das, Joint BDO and Joydeep Kundu, FEO, who are both AEROs of 139-Canning Purbo Assembly Constituency under “suspension with immediate effect for serious misconduct, dereliction of duty and misuse of statutory powers in connection with SIR.”

The Commission directed that “disciplinary proceedings shall be initiated against Das and Kundu by the cadre controlling authority concerned immediately without any delay and apprise the Commission in this regard”.

Similarly, direction of disciplinary action and suspension have been ordered against Debashis Biswas, Jt BDO and AERO 229-DEBRA Assembly Constituency in Paschim Medinipur district, Dr. Sefaur Rahaman, Assistant Director of Agriculture Department in 56-Samserganj Assembly Constituency in Murshidabad Sk. Murshid Alam, ADA, Suti Block & AERO for 57-Suti Assembly Constituency in Murshidabad. The other two are Nitish Das, Revenue Officer, Farakka & AERO for 55-Farakka Assembly Constituency in Murshidabad and Dalia Ray Choudhury, Women Development Officer, Maynaguri Development Block, 16-Maynaguri Assembly Constituency in Jalpaiguri District.

Similar suspension with immediate effect and disciplinary proceedings have been directed by ECI against all seven AEROs. They have been asked to be put under “suspension with immediate effect for serious misconduct, dereliction of duty and misuse of statutory powers in connection with SIR.”


The Commission directed that disciplinary proceedings shall be initiated against them by the cadre controlling authority immediately, without any delay and apprise the Commission in this regard, ECI said.
Letter to CEO
In addition to this, in a separate letter to CEO-West Bengal, ECI, referring Supreme Court’s Order dated February 9.02.2026, ECi said, taking cognizance of “the issue of alleged burning of records of objections, the Commission has directed that all the objections in Form 7s received till date in the offices of CEO and DEOs shall be sent to EROS/AEROs immediately and latest by February 16 for disposal of the same.
ECI directed that the EROS and AEROs are directed to dispose of all such objections in Form 7s received either in their offices or from the offices of CEO and DEOs, in accordance with the statutory scheme and in accordance with the Order dated February 9 by SC. Disposal of all Claims & Objections shall be ensured, it said.
