Details shared in Parliament

BJP MP from South Delhi R S Bidhuri said he raised the issue during the Lok Sabha session and sought details on the redevelopment of railway stations in the capital. In a written reply, railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said 1,337 railway stations across the country are being redeveloped under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, including 13 stations in Delhi.

Work completed at New Delhi station

Major redevelopment work has already been completed at New Delhi Railway Station on the Ajmeri Gate side, Bidhuri said. The passenger waiting area has been upgraded and the number of ticket counters has increased. Public address systems, electronic information boards and CCTV coverage have also been strengthened.
He said the station now has better lighting, uninterrupted power supply, RO water purifiers and separate toilets for men, women and persons with disabilities. Seating arrangements have also been improved to manage passenger crowds.

Bidhuri said redevelopment work has also started on the Paharganj side of New Delhi Railway Station. The work includes construction of a basement, demolition of old structures and shifting of existing facilities as part of the upgrade plan.
